Compensation for medical negligence over birth
A nine-year-old boy is in line for a substantial payout after gross medical negligence caused by hospital staff during his birth.
The boy was deprived of oxygen at birth which resulted in him now suffering from quadriplegic cerebral palsy.
Injury lawyers representing his parents told the court that the boy will now require constant care for the rest of his life.
Arrowe Park Hospital said that medical negligence claims of this nature are very regretful.
They admitted medical negligence after failing to pay attention to the boy's mother's medical records, which would have showed them that she would need additional care.
The staff at the hospital sent her home whilst in labour, despite having a fibroid. This later contributed to the circumstances surrounding the youngster's birth.
Injury lawyers for the family have said that the family is now using the compensation claim payout to make their son's future more comfortable.
The boy's father said, “This has been a long hard fight to secure our son's long-term care”.
Injury lawyers said they were very happy that the hospital trust admitted liability and decided to make the payout.
