Man in Chichawatni victim of Medical Negligence
Managers of the private Chichawatni Adda Dadfityana Tehsil AlBadar Hospital in Pakistan incapacitated the only breadwinner of a family of eight by injecting him with a contaminated liquid.
The man has asked the chief justices of Pakistan and the Lahore High Court to process his compensation claim so he can keep his family going.
Muhammad Iftikhar (25), spoke of how he visited the Chichawatni Adda Dadfityana Tehsil AlBadar Hospital to receive medicine for a fever. There he was sent to a dispenser who injected an intra-muscular injection into his left arm on the on the advice of Dr Shahbaz, a medical officer of the hospital.
Iftikhar’s arm started to swell within five minute of the injection , and upon informing medical staff they threw him out of the establishment. After this he went to Sahiwal Civil Hospital for further treatment where he remained under intensive treatment for about 45 days. He had two fingers removed to save his arm.
The owner of AlBadar Hospital confirmed the incident, but said the injection was made by a boy working in the hospital’s medical store, not a member of staff, therefore management would face legal action but would not pay the victim’s family.
