Superbug leading to more compensation claims
The field of medical negligence is being swamped by compensation claims across the whole of the UK thanks to superbugs like the recently publicised Steno infection.
The Steno Infection is a hospital spread superbug and according to the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Cambridge has led to around 1,000 reports of Steno blood poisoning in Britain each year. inflicted It is thought to kill a third of the people that it infects after entering the blood stream, and has been found on hospital taps and shower heads. A third of all the reported cases are fatal.
This infection is particularly worrying due to the degree of it’s resistance to antibiotics.
The infection usually enters the body via devices such as catheters or ventilation tubes that have been left in place for long periods of time. With recent news about the substandard conditions of NHS hospitals, it is even more important for hospitals to clean up their act in more ways than one.
