3 hips for the price for 1
In a recent case in Doncaster, a woman was awarded compensation following a number of problematic operations that were carried out on her hip. After being admitted into a private clinic that was carrying out essential NHS surgery, all appeared well until it was noted that her wound had in fact become infected. It seems that when it comes to infections and superbugs the NHS manages to attract them all and following their invasion they leave a wake of lawsuits in their dust.
This case is no exception, in order to treat the infection a second surgery was require to remove the prosthesis. As Mrs ‘X’ initially went in to have a prosthetic hip fitted, having had it done and then removed left her in a position that if she ever wanted to walk again she would require a third surgery to do what the first surgery was meant to.
Faced with such a dilemma, Mrs ‘X’ chose the ability to walk, under the knife she went again. As if she hadn’t been through enough, this second prosthesis was fitted in the wrong position and so once again had to be removed with a bleak future of more surgery for Mrs ‘X’. The trauma of repeated surgery and the fact that she now walks with a permanent limp and is unable to handle stairs without supervision made Mrs ‘X’ more than entitles to compensation due to medical negligence.
