Contracting asbestos cancer 50 years later
A man after being exposed to the deadly fibers while working at a British vehicle manufacturing firm for over five years has eventually contracted an industrial disease called mesothelioma after 50 years from leaving the plant.
The former engineer worked on this plant when he was just a teenager and his employment duration lasted for around five years from 1953 to 1958, after this period he went on to pursue a successful career in the public sector instead. The man is now 72 years old and has received more than £160,000 in asbestos compensation from the responsible firm.
His personal injury lawyer said, "My client was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a painful cancer which affects the lungs and is nearly always caused by exposure to asbestos fibers”. It was only after following many treatments that the man was diagnosed with this form of cancer.
When the compensation claim was made many witnesses were appealed for to give an account about the adverse working conditions at the plant. When several people came forward to support the fact there was an assured approval of the pensioner's compensation claim.
The injury compensation lawyers who were working on this case were very delighted and thankful to the people who had come forward for the cause. They appreciated the fact that they were able to accumulate enough evidence and support from the witnesses to make the former worker's claim for asbestos compensation indispensable and for this reason the insurers settled the matter with an out of court settlement for £162,000.
