Chemical worker left with severe burns
A man has sustained severe personal injuries in a chemical-related accident at work. At the time of the accident, the man was working with a silo which contained over 3,000 tonnes of a highly flammable chemical.
A personal injury lawyer who specialises in work accidents, explained what happened next and the need for safety measures when working with chemicals.
He said: "This incident - in which flames were shot into the man's face the second he began welding - demonstrates the fundamental need for the adherence to safety procedures when working with highly volatile chemicals."
The man who is in his late fifties has now been left scarred for life.
He also added that the man was lucky to have had workers nearby when the incident took place, saying: "It is incredibly fortunate the man's colleagues were on hand to provide immediate assistance in putting out the flames and dousing his face with water.”
The man was kept in hospital for more than two weeks, while he recovered from his personal injuries, to his body including “his severely burnt face swollen to the size of a pumpkin.”
The man could be entitled to several thousands of pounds if he chooses to make a claim for compensation.
