Compensation for medical negligence injury

The parents of a boy who was born with cerebral palsy due to medical negligence have won a compensation claim payout.

Injury lawyers for the parents of the eight year-old boy said they did not have any support from the social services and had to fight for everything they needed.

The couple are both full time carers for their son and are thankful to have secured the settlement which will help to provide for his lifelong support.

Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust, the site where the professional negligence took place, admitted liability.

“At first we didn’t want to take action, but after giving the state a chance to help us and make good their error, it gradually became clear just how poor the infrastructure of support was," said the boy's father.

He added: "We found that what we managed to win one day could be easily withdrawn the next, so we were left with no choice."

Their injury lawyers stated: "Too many children are left permanently and severely disabled because of avoidable medical mistakes and their families are left to pick up the pieces with inadequate help."
