Man awarded compensation after head-on collision
A man who was involved in a horrific car accident has been awarded £2.3m in a compensation claim payout.
The man, aged 22, was left severely disabled after he was hit by an oncoming car while travelling to work in May 2006.
The victim, who moved to England from Afghanistan as a refugee at the age of 13, was hit by a driver who was overtaking a lorry coming towards him.
After being taken to hospital to be treated for extensive brain personal injury, he was told that he may never be able to walk again.
However, he managed to get back on his feet and was able to walk into the High Court hearing, where a judge approved his multi-million settlement.
He will receive a lump sum of £2.3m, as well as tax-free yearly payouts of £145,000 every single year of his life.
He currently lives in a specially adapted home in Bristol, and the payouts will help to pay for this, as well as around the clock care and continuing medical treatment.
The injury lawyer for the victim said: “The life-threatening injuries which he sustained in this tragic accident were caused through no fault of his own and have had a devastating impact upon [victim].
"We are, therefore, very pleased for [victim] that he will now have the benefit of the financial security which this settlement will provide to him for the remainder of his life.”
