Burn victim in compensation bid after ambulance delay
A man who was badly injured in an accident, suffering burns to 30 per cent of his body, is making a compensation claim after he was forced to wait two hours for an ambulance.
The man was injured after he fell into a pile of burning crates in April 2009. He managed to get out of the fire, and friends who were at the scene immediately dialled 999 to ask for assistance.
Within 15 minutes, fire fighters, police and a single paramedic arrived at the site of the accident, but an ambulance did not show up.
According to him, the delay in medical treatment meant the burns on his legs gradually became worse, as he had been covered in burning plastic from the fire which continued to cause more damage.
He had to wait three hours before his jeans were removed due to the late arrival of the ambulance.
He suffered serious personal injury to various parts of his body, including third degree burns on his hands. He also suffered first and second degree burns to his stomach, back, legs and arms.
The injuries suffered by him have forced him out of his job as a labourer for almost a year.
He has now asked his injury lawyers to initiate the compensation claim process, alleging professional negligence on the part of the ambulance crew.
