Compensation for lung damage victim
A man has won thousands of pounds in a work accident claim after being injured at work.
The 44 year old former machine operator was exposed to fumes from hydrochloric acid and damaged his lungs.
The man said: "There was something wrong with the formula that day and the material had got too hot." While working he wore only goggles and a mask.
When his health complications arose he thought he had a chest infection but an X-ray scan showed that his lungs had been burned. Doctors told him he had the lungs of a 77-year-old.
His injury lawyers said that he has won a five-figure payout in a compensation claim, after they reached a settlement with his former employers.
"I am on an inhaler now and have been going to the doctor’s ever since. I’ve developed asthma. I used to play football but I just get too breathless now," said the worker.
A spokesman for his previous employer said: "No admission of liability was made by us and the company’s insurers made a commercial decision to settle."
