Driver compensated for back injury
Injury lawyers of a bakery delivery driver who injured his back in a work accident, have been successful in getting him £6,000 in compensation.
It was reported that the man was forced to take almost a year off work as a result of the accident, which happened at the bakery in Durham, May 2007.
Injury lawyers said that the 43-year-old man was pushing a stack of 20 baskets of savoury pastries into his delivery van, when it was suddenly jolted by the rough edges on the concrete floor.
This caused him to seriously damage his back, leaving him with severe lower back pain and discomfort.
His injury lawyers argued that his employers should have provided a wheeled trolley to stack the baskets. They claimed that this would help them be moved more easily, something which employees had requested in the past.
The man's employers admitted partial public liability and settled the claim out of court.
His injury lawyers added: “By having some common sense and awareness that this job could have been done in a much more efficient and safe manner would have prevented this member from suffering an injury.”
