Food poisoning results in compensation claim

A group of travellers are suing their tour operator for personal injury compensation.

They claim that they were made ill as a direct result of poor hygiene at the hotel they were staying at.

The vactioners were all holidaying at a four-star hotel in Tenerife and fell ill with severe stomach upsets shortly after arriving.

Their injury lawyers said that this was because hotel staff failed to adhere to simple safety regulations.

It was also alleged that they were cross-contaminating products, mixing up hot and cold foods and serving items made of produce that was past its expiry date.

The majority of those who fell ill were diagnosed with salmonella or norovirus.

One pensioner was so badly affected that he is still being treated in hospital.

The tour operator is now facing compensation claims of more than £1 million, if it can be proven that the company was guilty of professional negligence by choosing a hotel for the holidaymakers that did not meet basic safety standards.

Injury lawyers also said that anyone taken ill or suffering from food poisoning on a package holiday should seek the advice of an expert personal injury lawyer.
