Compensation for man hit with a stick
A man has been ordered to pay accident claim compensation to another man who he attacked with a stick.
Injury lawyers told Blackburn magistrates that 32-year-old accused was waiting inside a club with the stick poised above his head, follwing an assault on himself by a group of teenagers.
He hit the first person who walked in, who turned out to be an innocent victim.
The man was convicted in his absence and at the sentencing hearing the man was ordered to pay the compensation claim. He was also ordered to carry out a 12-month community supervision order.
His injury lawyers said the accused had left the club with his girlfriend and there had been a verbal exchange with three teenagers.
It was also reported that there had been an earlier incident in which the accused had been attacked by a group of youths.
"He describes being jumped on and kicked and when he was interviewed by the police showed them a black eye and two missing teeth," said his injury lawyers.
"He believed the person he hit was one of those who had assaulted him."
