Worker gets six-figure payout for personal injuries

A worker of a renowned car manufacturer has received a six figure sum in compensation claims after he suffered a nasty fall.

The 35 year old man had to quit his job as a Die Maintenance Technician, due to the work accident.

He slipped on black ice when he was leaving the car plant in December 2005. He landed on his right hand and suffered a severe fracture of his right index finger.

The Gateshead man hadn’t noticed the ice because the area designated for leaving the plant was badly lit.

Three years later, his finger is healed but there is no dexterity while there is a general loss of strength and disfiguration.

As a result of this disability, he has been forced to find an alternative role, firstly as an admin worker, then as a tenancy support worker for Gateshead Council.

His injury lawyers argued that the car maker should have ensured its exits were well lit and were free from ice.

The man's former employers admitted liability and settled the claim out of court.

After the settlement, the man said, “It has been difficult accepting that my earning capacity has taken a knock, especially with a young family, so this compensation will be a great help.”

His injury lawyers said, "We are happy with the settlement as our client's earning capacity was devastated by this avoidable accident.”
