Man compensated for asbestos related disease
A man suffering from asbestos has received a substantial sum in compensation claims, after his employers admitted exposing him to the substance.
The 62 year old man went to the doctor complaining about being breathless in November 2008 and was diagnosed with mesothelioma.
The North West London man was exposed to asbestos while working for a popular phone company, as a technical officer between 1971 and 1980.
His job included installing cables during the construction of telephone exchanges in Hampstead and St John’s Wood, which had a high amount of asbestos.
The man said: “I had not given any thought to being exposed to asbestos until I was diagnosed with mesothelioma."
His injury lawyers pursued a compensation claim to a successful outcome against his former employer who admitted liability.
After the accident claim settlement, the man said claiming compensation was important as he wanted to make sure his family was provided for.
As a self employed electrician he had planned to continue work until he was 67.
“I had to give up work as soon as I was diagnosed as I was too ill to continue. I was a fit and active man and did not feel my age before then,” he said.
The money will help towards the specialist treatment he is intending to seek in Germany, said his injury lawyers.
