Injured water polo player sues college
An injured water polo player has filed a lawsuit against a junior varsity for negligence.
A report from personal injury lawyers said the suit was filed on behalf of the young man by his parents.
He was reported to have become quadriplegic after hitting the bottom of a pool during practice.
The man was a member of the college’s junior water polo team.
On February 28, 2007 his teammates hazed at him at the school’s swimming pool.
They, according to report, began throwing kickboards, buoys and snowballs at the victim, while an assistant coach mockingly called him "flounder".
He was then ordered by the coach to enter the pool while others continued to throw objects and taunt him.
The lawsuit alleged that it was at this point that the man dived into the pool, hitting the bottom and suffering severe bodily harm.
Seeking an undisclosed amount in compensation, the parents blamed the school for not protecting the player and allowing objects to be thrown at him and around the pool.
