Woman sues after face-lift goes wrong
A woman is seeking compensation after being left suffering from nerve damage as a result of a Belgian face-lift, it has been revealed.
In 2005, the 42 year old woman who does not wish to be identified, had received a face-lift and an upper and lower eye surgery in Belgium.
However, after the surgery, she had suffered from personal injuries including damage to her nerves and permanent scarring around the eyes.
She claimed to have not been warned of the risk of nerve damage by the Elyzea Cosmetic Surgery, where she underwent the operation.
She is now seeking compensation from the UK’s Elyzea clinic.
According to her injury lawyer, the surgeon had carried out an unsuccessful corrective operation previously and there have been 24 known complaints against the surgeon.
However, according to the firm, who also operate in Manchester and London, it is not liable for her injuries due to the fact that the surgery had been undertaken in Brussels and is therefore subject to Belgian law- which leaves the surgeon himself liable for any claims.
Antonia Whally, assistant to the clinic's director, said: "Under Belgium jurisdiction, the surgeon is responsible for all his [medical practice], not the clinic. That's everything from start to finish."
Yet she stated that the surgeon is “behaving life an ostrich.”
She said: "The surgeon himself is accountable. We've tried to get into contact with him but he is behaving like an ostrich – which is not acceptable... We have lawyers working on the case who are actively pursuing [the surgeon]."
