Following a difficult case that lasted 29 days, an accident victim was last month awarded $900,000 (about £486,862) in compensation by a court in Canada.
The victim’s injuries were reportedly not easily visible but were serious enough to render him unable to work in his chosen profession for the rest of his life.
But the victim, according to a report, was able to present his case through his personal injury lawyer leading to the huge award of compensation.
The trial judge also found that the crash victim, whose name was withheld, had suffered a mild traumatic brain injury with personality changes and cognitive deficits, chronic pain, headache and depression.
It also said that if the trial judge had upheld the argument advanced by the insurance company’s lawyer in order to cut down the payout the victim would have ended with far less than what was awarded.
It would also have resulted in him owing the firm rather receiving a payout.
His success was largely due to the fact that he was represented by the best injury lawyer around, added the report. Updated on 17/11/2008
