The Sunday Times defends no win no fee injury lawyers
|
A UK newspaper has run an opinion piece defending injury lawyers and no win, no fee cases, counteracting the bad press compensation claims have received recently.
The Sunday Times ran the feature at the weekend which explored the role no win no fee claims play in British society, focusing in particular on the way different levels of compensation are perceived. Unlike recent press, which has concentrated on perhaps unfairly high value compensation cases, the article describes how many factors are taken into consideration when the compensation amount is being decided. It also points out that the number of unnecessary claims and excessively high compensation payouts are significantly lower than is represented by the media.
The paper's legal expert comments, "There are far fewer silly cases than people think because bringing one is time-consuming and it's not worth the risk if lawyers know they won't get paid if they lose. Where awards seem high there is usually a good reason, like the person was a high earner."
