Protesters win police brutality compensation
The High Court has ruled that two brothers who were protesting at a demonstration will receive compensation claim amounts due to allegedly being beaten by the police.
The Metropolitan Police had apologised for the force that had been used and Scotland Yard stated that offers of personal injury settlements had been made to the brothers.
Each brother received £12,500 each after they claimed they suffered unprovoked assaults by police officers in the course of a protest outside the Israeli Embassy on January 3, 2009.
The brothers allege that they were hit on the head with batons by the officers. During the protest it was reported £100,000 worth of damage was caused to property.
News of the amount came on the eve of appeals due to be heard on Tuesday against sentences imposed upon a number of protesters convicted of violent disorder in the same series of demonstrations.
Ten protesters will appeal against their sentence this month.
