Winter potholes leave Scotland in the cold
New figures released have shown that Scottish councils have spent thousands in paying off motorists compensation claims.
The accident claim cases come after the UK witnessed its worst winter ever in decades during 2009 and the beginning of this year.
Mother nature’s icy grip as a result wreaked havoc on roads and routes, leaving behind hundreds of potholes.
Aberdeenshire Council had one of the highest bills for maintenance, which increased from £165 million in November to £7.7 million in March.
East Lothian Council forked out £10,000 for settlements, whilst Midlothian Council saw personal injury claims double to 75.
Glasgow also witnessed its bill nearly double from £2.5 million to £4 million – with lawsuits reaching 544. Fife council shelled out more than £2 million for 159 claims.
A Represenative responded to the rise in cases, stating that lessons have been learnt and local authorities will be better prepared for future incidents.
