Oxford motorists going potty
Due to a rise in compensation claim cases, drivers who have been affected by potholes in Oxford will now have to wait longer for their accident claim award amounts.
Oxfordshire Council has received 810 payout cases in the first five months of 2010, due to the terrible winter inflicting damage on the county’s roads.
The claims have soared from the same period last year – when suits filed reached just 248. County Hall normally processes 95% of claims within two months, but due to the mass bulk of cases, claimants have been told they are in for a long wait.
One motorist has been angered over the latest news that he may need to wait “possibly longer” for his car accident claim amount, as he has already paid £359 for a new wheel and tyre, after his vehicle became damaged by a pothole.
The total value of settlement cases for pothole damage made to the council since the start of the year has reached £250,000.
