Worker receives £45,000 in compensation claims
A bakery worker has received £45,000 in damages after an accident at a supermarket forced her to give up work.
The worker tripped and fell on a damaged paving stone in the car park in March 2007.
As a result of the accident the 64-year-old woman broke her left elbow and needed surgery to repair it.
In addition the former assistant manager for a local baker, underwent a second operation a year later to remove a metal plate.
The personal injury has left her unable to straighten her arm to its full length or carry heavy objects.
Due the accident she has also been forced to take retirement four years earlier than planned.
She said: “I decided to claim compensation after I discovered that there had been previous complaints about the state of the paving stones in the car park. I didn’t want anyone else to go through what I have.”
Her injury lawyers argued that the supermarket should have kept it’s pavements in a state of good repair.
The supermarket admitted liability and settled the compensation claim out-of- court a week before it was set for trial.
