Scottish snowfall damage compensation claim deadline extended
2010 has not been a very good year for thousands. Not only have families and individuals had to cope with the recession, but the return of the snow has made lives much harder.
As a result, the Scottish Government announced that it will extend the compensation claim period for farm buildings that collapsed due to heavy snowfalls.
Originally, the £3 million reserve money was limited to buildings that had suffered in the period up to the end of January, but this has now changed. Public liability claims, along with accident claims, must now be submitted by the end of April.
NFU Scotland reminded companies looking to make use of the £6,000 available under the scheme that to qualify for support, costs related to replacement of temporary structures or to providing alternative accommodation need to be sustained by the end of March.
Borders MP Michael Moore expressed his happiness with the extension. “The Borders was one of the areas hit hardest – and longest – by the snow and this announcement will provide our local farmers with a welcome boost,” he stated.
