Man disabled by asbestos wins compensation claims
A man has received £45,000 in compensation claims after developing an asbestos related disease.
The provisional settlement will allow the man from Blacon, Cheshire, to re-open the compensation claim at any point.
This is because he is now at risk of developing the fatal cancer mesothelioma.
The man was exposed to asbestos while working as a trained plasterer at Chester College.
The 65-year-old worked at the college for 36 years before he retired. During that time he was not given any protection, or warned of the dangers to his health.
“The compensation is a relief, but I’d rather have my health back. The most important thing for me is knowing that my wife and family will be able to claim compensation if the worst does happen," he said.
His injury lawyers said that the employers put his health and safety in serious jeopardy by exposing him to asbestos with no protection.
They added: “The settlement means that he will be compensated if he should suffer serious deterioration, due to progression of his pleural thickening, or other asbestos related conditions, including mesothelioma and asbestos induced lung cancer.”
