Attacked girl paid £19,000 compensation
A 16 year old girl who was stabbed and left for dead in an unprovoked attack has been awarded a sum of £19,000 compensation.
The girl received stabs in the chest, face, neck and back by her attacker as she walked along a footpath two years ago.
She suffered a stroke and lapsed into a coma while team of surgeons spent hours operating on her to save her life.
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority awarded her £18,895 – £821 for each of the 23 times she was stabbed.
Her mother said: "We just want her to get what she deserves. What she went through was life-changing, and not only for her, but all of the family too."
The girl's attacker, a French national, is currently serving a life term for her attempted murder.
According to her mother, a police official had to drive the ambulance to the hospital as both paramedics were needed in the back to try and save her life.
Her injuries were so bad that the police treated the path where she was found as a murder scene.
"The compensation doesn't seem to take into account that she was in a coma, and couldn't walk, talk or eat for weeks," said her mother.
