Pupils’ £125,000 compensation payout
Following compensation claims from school pupils as a result of various accidents, a total of £125,000 has been paid to victims.
A report claimed that children got paid up to £10,765 in injury claims from local councils in the Lothians and head injuries, trapped fingers and broken legs were listed among issues for which claims were made.
It added that local authorities had also been sued after pupil’s possessions like jewellery, mobile phones and school uniform got stolen, lost or damaged.
The highest pay out in claims was made by Edinburgh City Council, which shelled out £62,825 in the past five years for 28 injuries and four incidents relating to property.
Next is West Lothian, which paid out over £38,000 to pupils while Midlothian Council compensated children to the tune of £23,900.
However, in East Lothian claims for compensation from pupils cost the council only £90 although there were 31 claims for incidents ranging from missing gym shoes to tripping in the playground.
