Mother seeks compensation for toddler injury
The mother of a toddler who suffered burns to her feet after stepping on a metal manhole cover in a children’s playground is seeking compensation for pain and suffering.
The accident occurred in California, when the 15 month old and her mother visited the children’s play area on a highly sunny day. The child accidentally stepped on the metal covering, which had become extremely hot in the sun, and burned her feet.
A lawyer for the city said that children’s play areas could never be made 100% safe and that the city rejected the charges of negligence.
"We felt so sorry for her and we had trouble comforting her because her pain was so extreme," said her mother, who added that she would never expect "a danger in the grass at a water play park.”
The woman’s lawyer said that the aluminium cover over the hole was an easy thing to fix, which should have been dealt with before anybody suffered an injury.
