Sailor to sue MoD following squash injury

The Ministry of Defence are to be sued for £100,000 by a British serviceman after he injured his ankle in a game of squash deemed compulsory.
Mark Fraser, 42, has been unable to carry out duties since the incident in 2004 and is seeking
compensation. Legal papers lodged at the High Court in London say the submariner has been left with a limp and unable to run despite being a once active athlete before the injury.
Fraser claims his legs collapsed beneath him twice in the weeks following the accident, with a Navy medic failing to identify the extent of the damage properly.
This misdiagnoses prevented him from receiving necessary surgery which would have restored his ankle to full health according to Fraser’s legal team.
The writ delivered to the High Court states, “As a result of the failure to diagnose the ruptured left tendon Achilles, the claimant was denied the opportunity to early reparative surgery. Such surgery, if undertaken within a day or two of diagnosis, would have led to a complete or near complete recovery.”
The writ adds that “Fraser’s career with the Royal Navy is uncertain.”
