Compensation likely after drink drive crash
Relatives of a teenager killed in a car accident in Wigan may make a compensation claim against the 21-year-old driver who was found guilty of drink driving.
The 19-year-old passenger, who was also the owner of the car, allowed a male friend to drive her MG sports car in the early hours of August 28 last year, when he lost control of the vehicle and hit the garden walls of two houses.
Witnesses to the crash described the car being driven at high speeds as it approached the Skew Bridge on Warrington Road in Newtown. The crash happened after the pair had spent the night in a club in Wigan town centre.
Emergency services attended the scene and had to cut free both the driver and the teenage woman. Sadly the woman was later pronounced dead at Wigan Royal Infirmary.
The driver has been jailed for five and a half years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance. He was also banned from driving for seven years.
