Both patients were rushed to the Royal United Hospital in Bath by ambulance for assessment and further treatment of their personal injuries.

Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) rushed to the scene after they received reports of the single-vehicle incident, involving a Vauxhall Corsa on the B3109 Bradford Road at Rudloe, near Corsham.

GWAS officer Andy Richardson said: “The lady also had an existing medical condition, so we and our fire service colleagues worked closely together to take additional precautions in releasing her from the vehicle.”

A paramedic in a rapid-response vehicle was first on the scene. This was followed by two ambulances and an officer to liaise with other emergency services who attended.

Both patients, thought to be husband and wife in their 70s, were freed from the car by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
