Man dies in car accident while test driving

A young car lover has been killed while test driving a 'hot hatch' that he was hoping to buy for his birthday.

The 20-year-old man was a passenger in the Peugeot 106 Rallye hatchback that was driven to a country road for a test spin, by the owner.

He even had the money in his pocket when he was test driving the car with the owner.

But police reported that the 21-year-old driver lost control and crashed into a wall - killing the front seat passenger instantly due to serious personal injury.

A police spokeswoman said: 'The blue Peugeot 106 was travelling towards Tenby, when it appears to have lost control and collided with a stationary vehicle parked at the roadside."

The driver was airlifted to hospital and was today in serious condition but is expected to survive.

His friend, with whom he had been to the place with, was still waiting when he saw an air ambulance fly overhead to the car accident scene just minutes later.

More than 1,800 of the dead man's friends and family have left tributes on a Facebook site set up in his memory.

He would have been 21 next Monday and friends were planning a birthday party.

His friends are now planning a lap of honour at the annual French Car show for Peugeots and Citreons held every summer in Rockingham, Northamptonshire.

It is unknown if the family will file a compensation claim.Updated on 24/02/2010
