Car accident discovery
In Ontario, Canada a new discovery has been found. It appears that the use of ADHD medicines could help reduce car accidents. Dr. Daniel Cox said: “The use of ADHD medication.
The specific periods when car accidents occur involving teens and young drivers with the mental disorder are in the summer months, late in the evenings and at the weekends. Cox explained: “All these times correspond to those when individuals are least likely to be taking their ADHD medications.”
Car accidents are a concern for all young adult drivers, especially those with ADHD. Cox said that of all females who die, 46% of them die because of a road accident. Similarly, 36% of men die due to car crashes.
Those with ADHD are four times more likely to be in a collision, three times more likely to receive a citation and six to eight times increased risk of having their license suspended.
However, Cox noted that medication for ADHD labeled with ‘long lasting’ actually worked better for many individuals.
