Car accident victim aims to crack down on speeders

A former soldier who was involved in a serious
car accident has used his experience to help others by setting up a 'speedwatch' organisation to stop motorists travelling over the speed limit.
David Pointet, from Lightwater in Surrey, was involved in a collision in 2004, which left him with numerous serious injuries including broken bones and severe head injuries.
Pointet was awarded a large compensation payout for the accident in the high court.
The speedwatch group is run solely by volunteers who will monitor the speeds of drivers through the small village using radar guns. The group will pass on the details of any cars found travelling in excess of the limit to the Police.
“We’ve been in this house for 10 years and there has always been speeding. People don’t abide by the 30mph limit and use the road as a short cut,” said Pointet.
“I think it will act as a deterrent to people putting their foot down and I hope it will make them more conscious about how they are driving,” he added.
