Council plans footpath maintenance after number of claims
A Yorkshire town has recently seen a huge number of injured people making accident claims pertaining to its crumbling pavements, and its council now plans maintenance on these paths in order to ensure the people’s safety.
The work planned by the Council is projected to take three months to complete; it will begin in January of next year, to be completed before the beginning of April. In total 9 streets are being targeted for maintenance, most of which are in shopping areas.
It has been reported that a huge 150 public liability accident claims for compensation have been made in the last 3 years against the council. These came from people who had suffered injury after slips, trips or falls on the council-maintained paths.
A council spokesperson has stated that the plan’s main purpose is to improve safety for pedestrians. The stone used to repair the streets is to be new York stone, while stone will be reused to repair the pavements.
