Cumbria Council Pays £600k in Pothole Accident Claims
Cumbria County Council has revealed that the amount of compensation claims paid out in 2009 for damage to cars caused by potholes reached over £600,000.
More than half of that figure was paid directly to claimants, whilst the rest was spent on legal fees to settle the accident claims.
The winter frezze, which resulted in a higher than normal amount of ice and snow, led to a significant number of potholes forming on roads across the UK.
The increased number of potholes has caused even more car damage and car accidents nationwide.
Cumbria County Council, in line with many other councils, set aside a large amount of money – three million pounds – to help cover the cost of road repairs.
Elsewhere, in the Worcestershire area, the local council has reported that more than four thousand dangerous holes were found in the roads.
