Teenager Paralysed in Car Accident Sues Driver for £300,000
A teenager who was left paralysed from the waist down due to multiple the personal injury he suffered in a car crash, is making an accident claim for more than £300,000 against the driver.
The accident happened on 8 November 2007. The victim, aged 19, was in the car when the driver lost control of the vehicle, colliding with a tree and coming to a halt in a ditch. The victim was trapped in the wreckage of the car for over one hour.
He suffered spinal cord damage in his neck and is now paralysed from the waist down. The movement in his arms and upper body has also been restricted. He is at risk of his condition deteriorating through osteoporosis and fragility fractures.
He could also suffer from future issues, including obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome, especially if he gains weight as he gets older, or if he develops a cyst on his spine.
On September 15 2009, solicitors representing the driver admitted public liability for the accident, but the two sides are unable to agree on how much compensation the victim should receive.
However, the writ does not specify the level of compensation sought, but indicates that lawyers assess the value of the claim at over £300,000 - if successful.
