Cyclist seeks compensation after near-fatal car accident

A woman cyclist who suffered serious personal injury after she was hit by a car door has initiated legal proceedings for accident claim compensation, almost three years on.

The woman was cycling along George Lane in South Woodford in April 2007, when a motorist allegedly opened his car door.

As a result of the move, she was thrown from her bike and suffered serious brain injuries in the accident. She suffered a blood clot in her brain and had to undergo emergency surgery.

The woman had to spend nine months in hospital after the fall due to the severity of the damage she sustained.

Now, the 72-year-old has to live with the effects of the brain damage and her husband looks after her affairs.

Her injury lawyer claims the motorist of negligence in opening the car door into her path, failing to ensure it was safe, failing to see her, failing to check the road was clear and hitting her with the car door.
