Widow files accident claim

It has been revealed that the widow of a man killed in a work accident will head to the courts this week, to file an accident claim.

The claim will be against her husband’s employer and will be filed because she was ‘disappointed’ that a jury at a previous inquest found the firm not liable for his death.

The victim, of Cheshunt Road, Enfield, died following an explosion in the Morson Road plant on November 20 2007.

The father-of-one died from personal injury to the head, after being blown backwards when a 200 litre drum of carbon powder he was working on became filled with nitrogen gas and burst.

The company has now withdrawn this equipment used in the accident. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating the incident.

The widow said: "To go over the details of [his] death has been extremely difficult for us. I am disappointed that the inquest has left many of my questions unanswered.

"We need to know what could have been done to prevent [his] death, both for our own piece of mind and to ensure that this does not happen to another family.

"We hope that the HSE’s investigation will give us a clearer picture of what happened.”
