Welder wins accident compensation
A welder, who was struck by a falling iron bar, has been awarded compensation for his injuries.
The man, who was working on a handrail in a university when the accident happened, was left with severe injuries to his neck and skull. The worker told reporters that he was shocked that an incident such as that could happen while undertaking a relatively easy job.
The welder was forced to take nearly two years off work because of injuries to his spine and a broken skull. He continues to need therapy until this time.
While attempting to weld a staircase handrail the man was struck by the iron bar, which was estimated to have fallen around 15ft.
"As a welder I am used to working in dangerous conditions so I couldn't believe I was so badly injured while doing what I would call a simple and safe job,” he said.
