Accident on M6 as drunk driver falls asleep behind the wheel
Two people have suffered multiple personal injuries in a road accident caused by a drunk driver who fell asleep behind the wheel.
The 21 year old driver, from Carlisle, was banned for 18 months and was given a jail sentence of six months for putting people’s lives at risk after he drank more than a gallon of beer the night before driving along the M6 motorway southbound at Broughton, Lancashire.
The young man collided with two other vehicles and a central reservation after claiming he had not had enough sleep.
According to the hearing at Preston Crown Court, the man had also been over the legal drink driving limit.
The judge stated that he had put not only his own life, but the lives of other people at risk.
The man admitted liability and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and drink-driving.
The two drivers of the other vehicles suffered from whiplash injuries and soft tissue damage as a result.
It is currently unknown whether the other injured drivers will be filing a no win no fee accident claim against the 21 year old.
