Trainee electrician receives £17,750
A trainee electrician has received £17,750 in compensation after suffering from personal injuries from an electrical explosion, it has been revealed.
Steven Roberts, who had been training as an electrician, had been repairing wires at the quarry when a faulty piece of equipment lead him to believe he was blinded.
The accident occurred when Roberts had been given a volt pen voltage detector to ensure that the electricity supply had been turned off after his colleague signalled that the supply was off.
However, the pen had been faulty and there was a high voltage flowing through the area which caused an explosion after Roberts had touched the wires.
As a result, Roberts suffered from burns to his hands and face. It took months for him to recover and by then, he had developed post traumatic stress disorder. He had also believed that he had been blinded when the explosion initially took place.
He filed for an accident claim against his employers stating that the equipment he was given had not been checked.
However, his employers denied liability but had settled the claim before Roberts turned to legal proceedings.
