Construction firm pays out for accident claim
A construction firm has been fined £5,000 after an accident claim was filed at one of its sites in South sea. Peter Ernest Homes will also pay £1,543.20 after pleading guilty to breaches of health and safety regulations.
The accident occurred after an employee was crossing the construction site to make tea but received personal injuries after a five-foot scaffold pole struck him which lead to partial paralysis.
Joanna Woodcock, an inspector with the HSE said that falling materials pose a great risk in the workplace daily.
“Even a small element of scaffolding can cause significant injury or death. Those in control of scaffold operations should keep others out from below because it only takes a simple human error to drop something.”
