Accidents in public can occur in a variety of places from simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sufficient steps must be taken to oversee the safety of the public, for example, slipping in a supermarket because of a spillage that should have been cleaned up properly.

If you have an accident whilst on a shop owner/occupier's property, your accident is their responsibility and if you've been injured as a result within the last three years, you may be able to claim. However minor you may think your injury is to begin with, any accident that happens on public property must be recorded in the on site accident book so if this wasn't done at the time, a quick phone call can see to it.

As with any accident, you have 3 years to make a claim before it becomes 'statute barred'. However, if you were under the age of 18 when it occurred, then you have three years from the age of 18 to make a claim for compensation.
