Personal Injury Claims Sought by UK Council Workers
It has just been revealed that workers for Scunthorpe Council have filed
personal injury claims against their employers for harassment and assault. The exact details of each claim have not yet been released. However, the claims were filed between April 2006 and March 2007.
In total, four allegations and claims against senior council members were filed but one case was rejected. The remaining cases are still undergoing examination. The minority of personal injury claims which the council faces are for harassment or assault. Most claims relate to uneven pavement and pot-holes in roads and steps which cause trips and falls.
It has widely been reported that UK councils spend millions of pounds every year on personal injury claims. On slips and trips alone, 2007 figures for North Lincolnshire council reached £88,146 and only 28 of 189 people injured received any form of financial compensation. However, the overall number of claims made against local councils is currently on the decline.
